CSO SUSTAINABILITY INDEX

The CSO Sustainability Index for Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, developed annually by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is an important instrument that tracks the progress of the CSO sector in 29 countries over the past sixteen years.

The Index examines the overall enabling environment for civil society, focusing on the legal environment, organizational capacity, financial viability, advocacy, service provision, infrastructure, and public image.

The CSO Sustainability Index for Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia uses a seven-point scale with 1 indicating a very advanced CSO sector and 7 indicating a low or poor level of development.
