Republic of Moldova is reaching 94th position according to the World Giving Index 2011 recently published by the Charities Aid Foundation (UK). The study measures the giving behaviour in 153 countries and is based on a survey carried out by Gallup. According to the survey 18% of Moldovans declared that they are giving money to charity every month, 21% volunteertheir time and 44% help strangers.
Overall the World Giving Index 2011 demonstrates that the world has become a more charitable place over the last 12 months - with a 2% increase in the global population 'helping a stranger' and a 1% increase in people volunteering.However, the report also shows that fewer individuals can afford to give money to charity as result of the financial crisis.
