Moldovan Parliament Adopted a Strategy to Strengthen Civil Society

On March 23, 2018, the Moldovan Parliament approved a Civil Society Development Strategy (CSDS) and Action Plan, two significant and comprehensive policy documents that lay out the authorities’ commitment to strengthen citizen participation in public decision-making, improve the financial viability of civil society organizations (CSOs), and increase civic activism and volunteering over the next three years.

The CSDS is the culmination of an inclusive, 1.5-year process coordinated by the Parlaiment that included more than 60 representatives from CSOs, the Moldovan NGOs Council, and relevant government agencies. Moldova Partnerships for Sustainable Civil Society (MPSCS), a five-year project funded by the United States Agency for International Development and implemented by FHI 360 and the European Centre for Not-for-Profit Law, provided technical assistance and expertise to develop and promote the CSDS.
